This is a modified version of 500D and is slightly better than 500D

It is priced nearly the same as 500D and the major difference is the 18 MP sensor (550D) instead of the 15 MP in 500D

This also has the integrated CMOS sensor cleaner which is quite an add on for people who shot in places having a lot of dust.

Continuous shooting speed is 3.7fps which is remarkable.

TTL full aperture metering with 63-zone SPC is available in this model where as it is 35- zone in 500D

It is very similar to the 500D expect for the points discussed above. 

So if you have the extra Rs 5000 in hand, go in for 550D else 500D is always an option.
